Yuhang Liu is an Associate Research Professor and master’s supervisor at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICT, CAS). He is a Senior Member of the China Computer Federation (CCF) and serves on the editorial boards of Computing and CCF Newsletter.
His principal research area is advanced computer architecture and systems, with an emphasis on performance mechanisms, architectural design, and useful system performance. His work with collaborators on C²-bound, CaL, and LPM examines the roles of memory capacity, access concurrency, and data locality in computing performance. His datacenter research, including Ah-Q and system-entropy-based approaches, investigates how to quantify and mitigate interference among co-located workloads. Related interests include prefetching, chiplet-based systems, and the RISC-V software ecosystem.
Beyond systems research, he studies the concepts and methodologies of computing, contributed to the HCDA thinking framework, and advocates Problemology as a counterpart to methodology. He also conducts source-based studies of seminal computing papers, historical figures, and the development of computing technology in China, advocating the establishment of a scholarly field of historical and source-critical studies of computing.
His work has appeared in SC, HPCA, DAC, ICSE, IEEE TPDS, Communications of the ACM, and other venues. He has published three books on computer systems and computing scholarship and holds more than ten granted invention patents. Some of his technical results have been applied in industrial chips or systems. He has also contributed to the China Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy 2040 report.
